Channels Television is one of the 13 independent television stations currently broadcasting in Nigeria, since the Federal Government deregulated the broadcast media in 1992.

The company was licensed in June 1993 and allocated a frequency on UHF (channel 39). It began transmission two years later under the name Channels Television and now broadcasts to a well discerning audience of over 20 million people.

The establishment of Channels Television as a news station was in response to the yearning of Nigerians for a TV station that will among other things. The station has bagged the ‘Best Television station of the Year’ an award endowed by the Nigerian Media Merit Award Trust – seven times in the last thirteen years (2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010 & 2012), thereby making Channels Television “the Station of the decade”.

JOB TITLE:    ACCOUNTANT

COMPANY:  CHANNELS TV

GENERAL PURPOSE

The accountant will be responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting procedures.

Main duties:

    Compile and analyze financial information. To prepare financial statements including monthly and annual accounts.

    Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures

    Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met

    Prepare financial management reports

    Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end reports

    Establish and monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures

    Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities

    Continuous management and support of budget and forecast activities.

    Monitor and support taxation issues.

    Develop and maintain financial databases

    Financial audit preparation and coordinate the audit process.

    Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses.

    Analyze and advise on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments and future revenues.

    Analyze financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures.

    Prepare, examine and analyze accounting records, financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.

    Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns, ensuring compliance and payment reporting and other tax requirements.

    Analyze business operation, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.

    Report to management on the finance of the establishment

    Establish tables of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts

    Develop, maintain and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeting costs to actual costs.

BOOKKEEPING DUTIES

    Record weekly deposits

    Tracks billing and process monthly bill payments

    Process bi-monthly cheque requests and re-imbursements.

    Process bi-monthly payroll with ADP and records in quick books.

    Track and reconcile petty cash accounts

    Balance property management statements and records in quick books

    Enter new budget annually.

    Provide monthly reports on available funds for departments and committees.

    Provide new employee and independent contractor reports.

    Perform other duties as required.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

v    Accounting degree.

v    Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles.

    Collects and analyses information about newsworthy events to write news stories for broadcast. Receives assignment or evaluates news leads and news tips to develop story idea.

    Gathers and verifies factual information regarding the story through interviews, observation and research.

    Organize material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.

    May monitor police, fire agencies as well as other news communications to obtain story leads.

    May take photographs or shoot videos to illustrate stories.

    May edit or assist in editing videos for broadcast.

    May appear on television programs when conducting taped or filmed interview narration.

    May give live reports or commentaries from site of event, or mobile device.

    May transmit information to news writers for story writing.

    May specialize in one type of reporting, such as sports, energy, political affairs, police activities, entertainment, etc.

 General Purpose

The primary role of a television producer is to oversee all aspects of program assigned, ranging from program idea development and cast, to shoot supervision and fact checking. He/she participates in activities such as script writing, set designing and even directing. It is often the producer who is responsible for the television program’s quality and survivability.

Duties:

    Outlines programs to be produced and evaluates finished script.

    Composes or edits program scripts to meet management and other requirements.

    Coordinates various aspects of production, such as audio work, music, camera work and script writing.

    Reviews production to ensure objectives are attained.

    Views taped programs to select scenes to be used.

     Listens to audio tape recording to verify program script or sound effects conform to broadcast standards.

    May oversee montage, set, costumes, props, music or other equipment or personnel to complete production.

    May coordinate production detail to produce live television programs from distant locations from the station.

    Decide on and invite guests who appear on the program.

    Ensure program quality.

EDUCATION
